Day 40: God you are my strength!

Praying in Jesus name means we pray in light of who He is, what He promises, and what He desires to do. Take some time today and pray in light of the following attribute of God.

Step 1. Reflect on His Character

God is Elohim. This name means “Strength” or “Power.” He is transcendent, mighty, and strong. Elohim is the great name of God, signifying supreme power, sovereignty, and a covenant relationship that He is ever faithful to keep. Genesis 17:7,8

Step 2. Rest in His Authority

The following verses reveal God as Elohim. Read these verses and identify promises that you can base your prayers on.

2 Samuel 22:33, Nehemiah 8:10, Psalm 46:1, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, Ephesians 6:10-11, Philippians 4:13

Step 3. Run in His Passion

There is a big difference between the prayer, “God give me strength” and “God you are my strength”. Asking God to give us strength is the equivalent of asking God to compliment our own efforts. God wants to give you so much more. He wants to be your strength. Hardships bring us to the end of ourselves and it is there that we find that “God is our strength”. His perfect power comes in weakness, or our point of surrender. His daily graces are all we truly need to pass through our difficulties. It is in those situations where the only thing keeping us going is God Himself. Take some time today and ask God to be your strength. Ask Him to help you see His daily graces. Pray of others you know of in difficulty to come to the same realizations. Remember the name Elohim is the same word used of God in the creation account. His very breath has the power to create and the power to sustain.

God is our Strength – One who has firmness of will, character, mind or purpose; power to resist force
May __________ be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. May __________ put on the full armor of God so that he/she can take his/her stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:10-11

Day 39: Praying to the God Who is Worthy of All Things

Praying in Jesus name means we pray in light of who He is, what He promises, and what He desires to do. Take some time today and pray in light of the following attribute of God.

Step 1. Reflect on His Character

God is Adonai. This name means “Master” or “Lord.” God as Adonai calls all of God’s people to acknowledge themselves as His servants, recognizing His right to command them as the Lord of their lives. 2 Samuel 7:18-20

Step 2. Rest in His Authority

The following verses reveal God as Adonai. Read these verses and identify promises that you can base your prayers on.

1 Chronicles 16:24-27, Psalm 18:1-3, Proverbs 16:7, Colossians 1:9-10, Revelation 4:11

Step 3. Run in His Passion

Many of us begin our prayers with the word “Lord”. Today as you pray, think about the meaning of that title. Ask yourself if He is really Lord over your life? Surrendering our life to His Lordship is easy when we truly understand that He alone is worthy to lead us and guide us. Surrender each area of your life today to Adonai, not our of obligation, but out of a a heart that He alone is worthy of every expression of your life.

God is worthy – One who has worth or value; honorable, admirable
We pray that __________ may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. (From Colossians 1:10)

Day 38: Praying When There are no Words

Praying in Jesus name means we pray in light of who He is, what He promises, and what He desires to do. Take some time today and pray in light of the following attribute of God.

Step 1. Reflect on His Character

God is our intercessor. Knowing our temptations, God the Son intercedes for us. He opens the doors for us to boldly ask Him for mercy. Thus, God is both the starting point and ending point of true prayer. As you read Hebrews 4:14-16 remember that these words were written as a encouragement to The Hebrews who were dealing with all the confusing emotions that go along with persecution. Allow them to bring you hope today as you pray.

Step 2. Rest in His Authority

The following verses reveal God as our intercessor and counselor. Read these verses and identify promises that you can base your prayers on.

Isaiah 53:12, John 14:6-7, 25-26, John 17:9,15, Romans 8:26,34, 1 Timothy 2:5-6, Hebrews 7:5, Hebrews 9:24, 1 John 2:2

Step 3. Run in His Passion

Intercession is such a powerful word. It is the picture of one who comes to the aide or intervenes on the behalf of another. Today’s verses remind us that God is not distant or apathetic with our struggles, but he is intervening on our behalf. It may be hard to see it because it requires we view our circumstances form a spiritual perspective, but none-the-less He is moving on our behalf. As you reflect and pray about your circumstances today, ask God to give you the spiritual sense you need to trust that He is interceding on your behalf.  Trust that the Father is interceding for you when you cannot form words to pray on your own behalf.

God is our Counselor – One who gives advice, guidance and direction
May ________ say with confidence: I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. (From Psalm 16:7-8)

Day 37: Praying to be Filled in All Things

Praying in Jesus name means we pray in light of who He is, what He promises, and what He desires to do. Take some time today and pray in light of the following attribute of God.

Step 1. Reflect on His Character

God is the Church’s head. God the Son, Jesus, is the head of the Church. The head—as the part of the body that sees, hears, thinks, and decides—gives the orders that the rest of the body lives by. Ephesians 1:22-23 calls us to give God His proper place of glory in our lives so we can experience the filling of His presence in all things.

Step 2. Rest in His Authority

The following verses reveal God’s desire to fill His people with His presence. Read these verses and identify promises that you can base your prayers on.

Ephesians 3:16-19, Ephesians 4:10, 1 Corinthians 15:28, John 1:16, Colossians 1:15-20, Colossians 2:9-10, Colossians 3:1-11, 1 Timothy 1:15-17

Step 3. Run in His Passion

When we talk about being filled with the presence of God, we can easily get lost in misunderstanding and mystery. While there is some mystery as to why a holy God would choose to dwell with and in His people, we must not lose sight that this is exactly what God wants to do in each and every believer. It is there that our misunderstanding surfaces. Most of us think God only wants to fill the elite, or at least those that are “better than us”. We don’t really like being around ourselves, and cannot fathom the concept that God would want to dwell with us. As you have read today, God wants to fill us. He wants to “fill all” in “all” things. The path to being filled is easier than one might think. It is simply one prayer. “God may your will be done in my life”.  That one prayer expresses desire to be emptied of self, dependence on His guidance and a willingness to be filled with His presence. As you go through your day, think about each activity of your life; even the mundane routines. As you encounter each activity, pray, “God may I do your will in this area of my life.”

God is the King of Glory – One who is powerful; one deserving great honor and praise
May __________ tell of the glory of Your kingdom and speak of Your might, so that all may know of Your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of Your kingdom. (From Psalm 145:11-12)

Day 36: Learning to Talk with Your Dad

Praying in Jesus name means we pray in light of who He is, what He promises, and what He desires to do. Take some time today and pray in light of the following attribute of God.

Step 1. Reflect on His Character

God is Father. The Creator of the universe cares for each one of us as if we are the only child He has. Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father” (Matthew 6:9). The Spirit of God taught us to cry, “Abba, Father,” as in the intimacy of the family. Romans 8:15-17

Step 2. Rest in His Authority

The following verses reveal God as Father. Read these verses and identify promises that you can base your prayers on.

Psalm 68:5, Matthew 7:7-11, Mark 14:36, John 1:12, 1 Corinthians 8:6, 2 Corinthians 6:18, Galatians 3:26, Galatians 4:5-7, James 1:16-17, 1 John 3:1

Step 3. Run in His Passion

Praying to God as Father should remind us of the personal and caring side of God. While many of us may have bad memories or experiences with our earthly fathers, God is a perfectly loving and caring father. He celebrates our life. He provides for us. He is there when we cry out to Him. He is never too busy or distracted that we can get His attention. He always desires to give us His affection. As you pray today imagine that you are talking to that kind of father. Take your concerns to him. Ask for His advice. Thank Him for being involved in your life. Thank Him for being your dad.

God is our Father – One who is our parent, protector

May __________ not despise Your discipline and not resent Your rebuke, because You discipline those You love, as a father the son he delights in. (From Proverbs 3:11-12)
