Day 40: God you are my strength!

Praying in Jesus name means we pray in light of who He is, what He promises, and what He desires to do. Take some time today and pray in light of the following attribute of God.

Step 1. Reflect on His Character

God is Elohim. This name means “Strength” or “Power.” He is transcendent, mighty, and strong. Elohim is the great name of God, signifying supreme power, sovereignty, and a covenant relationship that He is ever faithful to keep. Genesis 17:7,8

Step 2. Rest in His Authority

The following verses reveal God as Elohim. Read these verses and identify promises that you can base your prayers on.

2 Samuel 22:33, Nehemiah 8:10, Psalm 46:1, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, Ephesians 6:10-11, Philippians 4:13

Step 3. Run in His Passion

There is a big difference between the prayer, “God give me strength” and “God you are my strength”. Asking God to give us strength is the equivalent of asking God to compliment our own efforts. God wants to give you so much more. He wants to be your strength. Hardships bring us to the end of ourselves and it is there that we find that “God is our strength”. His perfect power comes in weakness, or our point of surrender. His daily graces are all we truly need to pass through our difficulties. It is in those situations where the only thing keeping us going is God Himself. Take some time today and ask God to be your strength. Ask Him to help you see His daily graces. Pray of others you know of in difficulty to come to the same realizations. Remember the name Elohim is the same word used of God in the creation account. His very breath has the power to create and the power to sustain.

Use this example as a guide to pray for the loved ones in your life. (Source Mom’s in Touch International)
